Piper brachyphyllum was published as nom. nud. (Willd. Enum. Pl. Suppl. p.3. 1813 [publ. 1814]) and later validated with a diagnosis (Roem. & Schult. Syst. Veg. 1 p.316 [1817]). The name was transferred to Peperomia by Sweet (Hort. Britt. p.380 [1826]. Dietrich's homonym is based on the same basionym, hence has to be considered as isonym (ICBN Art.6.3.2.).
