Not to be considered as synonym of Peperomia alata Ruiz & Pav. as was published by Burger, 1971: 17. Peperomia versicolor exhibits straight stems, with leaves often increasing in size towards the end. Leaves are purple-red abaxially. Peperomia alata exhibits zigzag stems with two distinct internodal wings. Leaves are more uniform in size and lack the characteristic abaxial colour [Mathieu & Callejas, 2006: 350].
