Peperomia blanda is likely the most misapplied name in the genus. Jacquin's original concept of Piper blandum, the basionym of Peperomia blanda, refers to a species showing a marked leaf dimorphism. Basal leaves are elliptic with an obtuse to even rounded apex, whereas distal leaves are longer, narrower and show a long acute to acuminate apex.
P. blanda is an exclusively Neotropical species. The correct name to be used in Africa, Asia and Oceania is Peperomia leptostachya .
