Most specimens currently identified as Peperomia blanda rather belong to Peperomia polystachyos (Ait.) Hook. Jacquin's original concept of Piper blandum, the basionym of Peperomia blanda, refers to a species showing quite some leaf dimorphism. Basal leaves indeed resemble those of P. polystachyos. Distal leaves however are narrower and long acute to acuminate. Yuncker (1974: 176) put Peperomia polystachyos in synonymy of Peperomia blanda. Nevertheless, the difference between both species is nicely illustrated in Hooker's Exotic Flowers.
