Dahlstedt published the new combination Peperomia nemorosa (Vahl.) Dahlst. based on Vahl’s Piper nemorosum (Dahlstedt, 1900). Vahl for his part published Piper nemorosum as a new name for Peperomia acuminata Ruiz & Pav. (Vahl, 1805 [published 1804]). He was not allowed to make it a new combination based on the Ruiz & Pavon name because Linnaeus already published Piper acuminatum L., a different species, in 1753. When Dahlstedt decided that it concerned nevertheless a Peperomia he fell back on the 1798-1804 situation and had to re-establish the Ruiz & Pavón name [Mathieu & Callejas, 2006]
